What is Chronic Stress?

From a Functional Holistic Health, Wellness & Life Coaching Perspective!

How are you feeling?


The world we are living in today is very different from the one we left behind not too long ago. Even further, our lifestyle is far diverse from our ancestors where the use of technology the way we know it now with our smartphones, with our overscheduled days, our behaviors of consumerism, and the overstimulated information we are receiving everyday from the outside world (social media, news, internet, commercials) were not a thing. 


People were more in tune with nature, the seasons, the elements. They had likely a slower pace lifestyle. They were less artificial, less material, and where living in more communal and stable environments. Also the products they were using on a daily basis had less to no chemicals. The soil from their vegetable garden was by definition healthier and communities were accustomed to eat natural, whole, and nutritious food. To warp it all, they were using more natural approaches and plants to help with their whole health.


Even if we reached an outstanding technological breakthrough among with other evolution known in our society like in science, research, and hygiene for example, our survival mode is far from being temporarily stressed from having a bear, a wolf, or a lion chasing us. Yet stress is an inevitable part of life and we are born with the natural response to protect ourselves from danger, stress became chronic instead of occasional.  


Nowadays, 70 - 80% of all doctor visits are for stress-related illnesses; and Stress contributes to 50% of all illnesses ~ from Morrison, Deborah "Get a Grip on Stress". With our lifestyle, our mindset, the overload of negative information, of events, of chemical in products we use and eat, in addition of societal expectations we grew up in and we are experiencing everyday, it all stimulates negatively and chronically our system. Functionally our body interprets all those factors with the fight or flight response, secreting various hormones to cope against those chronic stressors.


By introducing how our mind, our emotions, our body, our physical are impacted by chronic stress and stressors in our life, we have a better understanding about how to help ourselves, our children, and our family with various health and wellness concerns, and find a way to reduce them as much as possible with natural solutions.

It is unlikely to have a life completely free of stress, but we are not designed to deal with chronic and constant stressors from our modern society. Naturally, we are wired to handle short episodes of stress, and then return to a normal state, until the next surge... But nowadays in this modern life, we are living in a more mild, long-term stressors lifestyle. Therefore it is important to be familiar with the concept of Chronic Stress and Chronic Stressors, and understand the mechanism. That is why Stephanie Holistic Coaching created a workshop specially dedicated to understand about "What is Chronic Stress?


As a result, Chronic Stress and Stressors symptoms could be:

By definition, overall symptoms are not the problem, they are the results of the problem; and when one function in the body is not working correctly, the whole system cannot properly function in the long run.

As a consequence, our overall body is impacted by chronic stress and chronic stressors and our mindset, our emotions, our behaviors, our actions, and our reactions are affected even more as a reflection of how we experience life!
