Natural Gardening Inspired from the Wisdom of Ancestral Practices!
“Little Peace of Heaven” is a permaculture homestead farm located about 1h away from Charlotte, NC, and 20 minutes from South Mountain State Park with beautiful waterfall hikes, part of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Our homestead is an organic permaculture farm using the wisdom of ancestral practices with Composting, Permaculture, No-dig and Biodynamic Gardening!
In a nutshell, our passion on the farm is really about composting and the various ways of converting organic matter into natural fertilizer to condition and improve the land we are growing our food on.
Why Composting?
First, composting helps reduce the amount of garbage that is thrown away in the landfill everyday and helps decrease greenhouse gas emissions. Then, it helps support sustainable gardening and farming practices by recycling organic waste.
Furthermore, composting helps enrich the soil health with nutrients that support beneficial microorganisms. By doing so it promotes various benefits. For example, it helps increase the soil organic content, improves its texture, optimizes fertility, and also helps establish a proper root system for better soil drainage.
Overall, using composted matter in the garden helps stimulate and nourish the ecosystems of the soil by providing nutrients, moisture, and habitat for a huge range of organisms living in the soil. Which is crucial for promoting plant growth and maintaining soil fertility.
Last but not least, using compost in our garden beds also enhances plants' resistance to pests, diseases, and also unexpected extreme weather for example. All together, it helps the plants and the soil to respond quickly and more effectively when facing Mother Nature’s challenges.
To sum up, composting is a major pillar to grow a vegetable garden, indispensable to nourish soil health and optimize the nutrient density of the food we want to produce. If you are learning about gardening and want to grow your own food using a more organic and ecological approach, join us during private tours, held a few times a year, to introduce you to the various techniques, the whys, the mindset behind the growing and way of life, and have hands-on activities! During these events we will also talk about homesteading, whole food, food processing, and farm to table cooking lifestyle!
